Mundane Gear

Combat Sling (20 gold)—When this item is properly fitted to a Crossbow-style weapon, it may be used to keep the weapon easily at hand, even when released to deal with other problems.

At the start of your turn before you take any actions, and at this time only, you may choose to use a Free action to either equip or unequip the attached Crossbow (essentially simply dropping the weapon so that it hangs freely in front of you, or hastily grabbing it and returning to a firing position again). When you do so, you take a -2 penalty to your first subsequent attack roll in that turn, regardless of what weapon is used. Alternatively, you may at any point in your turn spend the usual Minor action to equip/unequip the Crossbow, with no penalties as usual (more carefully stowing it around your back).
